PhD in 1990 (Max Planck Institute, Munich); post-doc until 1993 (MPI Munich and Ciba-Geigy, Basle); 1993 to 2003 research scientist at Novartis Pharma, Basle; since 2003 group leader at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma; 2008 appointment as professor (Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Manchester)
